I was troubled by the queston about marijuana. I don't care if it doesn' affect me, but smoking the stuff can give you neighbor a contact high or an asthma attack--and that latter especially is something I think there should be consequences for.

Yeah, I don't really take much stock in this. "Luck" means different things to different people, and I agree that #11 could be both. The answers are all oversimplified. I felt I could put a "Sam" and an "Alistair" next to each answer.

Date: 2005-08-24 05:51 pm (UTC)#2 about immigration - labor unions might argue for tighter immigration policy, and they tend to throw their support to the Democrats, and the WSJ editorial board seems to love a free flow of cheap labor to mow their lawns and bus their tables.
#4 Doesn't No Child Left Behind include vouchers in the event that a school can't meet its goals? And didn't Ted Kennedy co-author NCLB?
#8 Only conservatives believe in luck? Are liberals all entirely deterministic?
#15 Only one side of the divide ever questions authority? When did that get started?

Date: 2005-08-24 06:09 am (UTC)It doesn't matter what you think or what kinds of causality you expect from specific actions, all that matters is how alike you think to some imaginary entity of pure liberality which all liberals are required to agree with on every minor point. Or what? My license to be a democrat is revoked?

This quiz sucked. So many of the questions didn't make since, especially the immigration one.. I think that making immigration easier would lessen the amount of illegal immigrants, not make it worse... and I think that illegals should either be deported or naturalized in exchange for paying a hefty fine. Also, businesses that hire illegals in the United States should be strictly punished, as well as businesses that take their production south of the border to pay those people shitty wages (and any business that takes production overseas).
That's just an example. I doubt I am really as liberal as the quiz said I was, unless it was only speaking in terms of social liberalism and not fiscal liberalism. I'm very socially liberal (I don't give a fuck what most people do as long as it doesn't hurt me or anyone else).
I also don't think giant businesses should be able to do whatever they want. How does this help the economy? Jobs help the economy, welfare reform that helps people when they are in the transition of making something of themselves (through school or job training) helps the economy. Going after big business helps the economy because it makes it more likely that the little guy can start his own business. I don't think any of the things Republicans do that they think stimulates the economy actually does, it just makes the rich richer and the middle class and poor even poorer.
