"A Drive in the Country" was supposed to be very different than what it turned out. Willie and Grendel were supposed to drop Maeve off at the train station and then go for, well, a drive in the country. A nice bonding scene like the "twitterpated" scene from Bambi or the snow angel scene from love story.

But a couple of things happen. First of all I don't know how to do "twitterpated," so I was approaching the story line with some trepidation, and not liking anything I was coming up with. Then there was Maeve.

Maeve was created for one purpose only: to give me a frame for "The Legend of Bess." She was a walk-on, an extra, but somehow, she stole the show. She suggested the current storyline as it stands, and I went with it because it is the first opportunity I've had to advance the metastory in almost a year. And the Metastory is shifting into high gear now, and I have Maeve to thank for it. As for the task of getting Grendel and Willie bonded, this story is accomplishing that too. And my forumgoers have noticed that.

The story I'm working on is more right for the comic right now than what I had initially imagined. It advances the plot points I wanted to advance, plus some others that I knew I needed to advance somehow but wasn't sure how. I'm glad I'm not the sort of writer who gets into battles of will with his muse.

It's called a "happy accident." You learn to appreciate them. Maeve can join up with Hal O'Peridol and find out what it's like to have been created for a one-off only to end up as a focal character. ;)

Kids motivate the darndest things.

(Can't wait to see how the metastory progresses.)

I really like twitterpated
