The New York Times has an article discussing how Barbara Bush (Dubya's Daughter, not Mother) will be the first of Prescott's descendents to Graduate from Yale without having joined Skull and Bones. Lots of speculation on why, but really who cares?

What I found striking was this paragraph:

Prescott went on to become a senator, and two of his sons, George and Jonathan, became Bonesmen. George took time off from Congress in 1967 to return to campus and to personally tap his son, George W.

Would Dubya have not been selected for the self-described meritocracy that is Skull and Bones if his own father had not tapped him?

The implications of this are, well . . . the boy was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.

Kind of how he got the Presidency, too.

And Kerry wasn't born on 3rd base next to Bush?

I saw the photos of Kerry on JFK's yacht... Fact is the monied have ruled the rest of us since Day 0 in this country, just like in every other country.

I still think Llewellyn for president (http://www.cafeshops.com/llewellyn2004.11293835) is one of the saner concepts floating around right now :)

Oh, absolutely. But he doesn't think he hit a triple to get there.

Exactly. He even says in his ad, "I believed if you were born into a life of privilege, you should give something back to your country," explaining why he went into the army. It may be political horsedung, sure, but all the same, it indicated an awareness of his silver spoon, whereas GW doesn't seem to know his silver spoon is there.

Huh. I heard a discussion of Skull and Bones just yesterday, something I'd heard of before only from ads for "The Others," and then I assumed they were fictitious. Turns out they really are nasty.

When I worked for CVS in the summer of 2001, I got the prescription for a Barbara Bush. Naturally I inquired, "No relation?" She replied, "Right, no relation," in a tone of annoyance. I've made no such gaffes since.
