Thank you for contacting me concerning the protection of civil liberties and the USA Patriot Act.

The USA Patriot Act (H.R. 3162) became law on October 26, 2001 with broad bipartisan support. While I was not in office when the measure became law, I support the Patriot Act in these trying times and do not believe it infringes upon the civil liberties of law abiding citizens. The Patriot Act contains sunset provisions that nullify many of its provisions on December 31, 2005.

While we may disagree on this issue, please know that I will be vigilant in protecting the civil liberties and privacy of U.S. citizens while working to keep our country safe from terrorism.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact me. I value your input. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you.

The only reason he's in office is that Bush murdered Wellstone. If the absentee ballots that had been cast for Wellstone had been assigned to Mondale, he'd have lost.

Do you really think Bush murdered Wellstone? Seriously? Small planes fall tragically from the sky all the time. There was another one in the paper today that crashed in the bay killing both aboard.

Voters look at Wellstone conspiracy nuts and think "Yikes, anti-Bush people are psychopaths" and wind up voting for Bush again. The conspiracy nuts seriously damage attempts to unseat Bush.

Yes, the crazy theories about Vince Foster were atrocious, as well as the whole list of "alleged murders" the Repubs tried to pin against Clinton. It would be sad to learn then that the left is no better than that.

The "Republican Revolution" and the OIC gave the Repubs an opportunity that Democrats do not have -- to set an indepenpendent counsel upon the President on an exhaustive quest for something impeachable. They had an opportunity to question, and investigate, and what they ultimately came up with was "Perjured himself on matters of Nookie."

As for the left being better than that; well we've tried that for years and all it has earned us is a steady attrition in both houses and the loss of the whitehouse. The moral high ground leads to golgotha, and this country needs a left that is more than a greek chorus chanting "naughty, naughty, naughty" while our country is sold down the river.

It happened in the Ashcroft/Carnahan senate race too. Granted Bush was not yet president at the time, but the machine that assured his ascendancy was entrenched. If not Bush himself, then others in the GOP. It's worth noting that in two senate races in a row, an incumbent democrat in a close race with a Republican died in a small plane crash. We'll never know what really happened, because the man who took the blame, the pilot, is dead, and dead men tell no tales.

1) Check the name of this Journal, Inkan. It is called "Ranting and Raving." I make no promises of journalistic integrity here. Heck, I don't even promise coherence.

2) Dismissing the possibility out of hand as a "crazy Wellstone conspiracy" is the easiest way to assure that if there is culpability somewhere, it remains undetected. This is a possibility that I continually raise, because I don't think it's been given the scrutiny it deserves. Sometimes in the course of politics, honesty and credibility become mutually exclusive because there are things no one wants to believe.

I'm with you, to an extent. Altho I wouldn't say it with such conviction myself, I liked the "Bush Killed Paul Wellstone" sign I saw at an antiwar rally in D.C.

Maybe it was another Republican or a third-party conservative acting without Bush's knowledge.
