An Exhausting Day Off
Jun. 22nd, 2004 11:56 pmSo,
morgan1 and I took the day off work today to repair the damage from yesterday's break-in. We bought a new storm door for the enclosed porch and a piece of glass to replace the one the thief broke to reach the lock and open it. Fortunately, my recent adventures is glazing made this seem trivial. I think I spent about 20 minutes on it all told. Sadly, however, The original glass was thick, leaded stuff with a beveled edge, and we were not able to replace it with the like. :(
Installing the Storm Door was another matter. It was straightforward enough, and I got everything mostly right. It looks worlds better than the POS storm door with the failing bottom panel that it replaced. That old one was probably in and of itself an open invitation to the enterprising young man in search of crack money. (Johnny Law commented on this that drug use is not a victim-less crime. Needless to say I did not point out that Prohibition was repealed because to kill the motivation for the crimes committed by alcohol seekers and those who supplied them.)
So now the perimeter is re-secured, a bit better than before, and I'm out a day's pay in addition to the property losses. But the new door looks good, and I got Cat-Tharsis inked and posted. Go and enjoy!

Date: 2004-06-23 05:31 pm (UTC)Regarding your break-in, I thought I'd tell you that my dad has had two bikes stolen from our garage. The first time, the thief apparently punched the ancient side door off its hinges, giving us an impetus to buy a new door. The second time, the thief broke thru an inconspicuous window obstructed by fence and foliage. I guess the next time the thief will either (a) dig a way in, (b) crash right thru a wall, or (c) raise the roof.

Also, I don't know what dippers are, and Google isn't presenting the contextually correct answer.
From the about page: "Mouse Dippers," mice deep fried whole and served with a selection of dips are a popular finger food.
McAdams is a popular fast food place that makes them, and is owned by Cleo's father. The reason that Willie and Grendel are exchanging that significant look in response to Maeve's desire to go to McAdams may be found in the story line that begins here:

Cat-Tharsis is a serial story, with a long-term meta-arc which will disclose itself a bit if you go through the archives.
