The battle continues
Jul. 4th, 2006 05:04 pmTo de-stink the Cavalier.
Sunday was spent going over the interior with a hot-water extractor. Pulled the seats, did the carpet twice (four times in some places) washed the non-porous surfaces with Simple-Green. The smell improved, until the car was in motion. Took it for a drive, but, even with the fan off, ram-air was pushing mildewed air into the cab through the vents. Had friend Betti come and collect Morgan, she could not ride in the car any longer. Took it home and took it to and from work the next day. It continued to make me sick.
So today I did a few more things. The vents came out of the Dash, were soaked in Simple Green and rinsed. The ductwork had a bleach-dampened rag shoved through all of it that I could reach. I got quite a lot of mankiness out of it that way, and then I ran the system in each of its modes, spraying Ozium in at the intake for each mode.
Took it for a test drive - much better, but I think I may need to give the defroster duct a more thorough treatment. I shall see how it treats me tomorrow and such.
The most frustrating thing is I have no idea how those ducts WORK. Chilton's is tight-lipped on anything involving HVAC. I wish I had a proper shop manual for it.
