Except that, if that were to actually happen, it might actually split my skull open, thus relieving the pressure in my sinuses.

So, I am home, and ill, and don't know how much is the illness and how much is the anti-biotics. Advil is relieving the headache, Afrin the sinus pressure, and so on.

So anyway.

Put a new HDD in the laptop over the weekend, and installed Redhat's Fedora Core 4. Some important things fixed, some stuff I don't like, and lots of effort spent disabling eye-candy. Point the first, FC4 does not appear to include much of KOFFICE. Since KWord is the only Word Processor that can passably manage pointed Hebrew, this was a major annoyance. Grabbed an RPM for it from FC3 and installed that. It fussed about dependencies. Ran RPM with --nodep, and installed fine and works fine. The KOffice people seem to have fixed a rather troubling bug with large tables, so yeah! They also seem to have introduced a behavior where an LTR character following a vowel point will overlay an RTL character next to it. Grelf. OpenOffice Suite is apparently supposed to be my darling, but the moment I try to do vowels with it in Hebrew, it does useless stuff. I might need to research this a bit. A pity, it looks otherwise very nice. Another complaint about FC4. They replaced the standard Hebrew Fonts in RH9 with the fonts from the Culmus Project. Now while I would have installed the Culmus fonts in any case, they are different than the standard font - specifically 12 point Culmus is about 10pt by any other measure, so I like having both. Probably I will just snag the TT Hebrew fonts off the Win2K box and install them here. And of course, as with any time I build a linux box, there is the chore of getting it to print with that damned "I'm too special to use PCL" raster-based POS Minolta printer that I bought shopping price.

Ah well, time to get back to healing or something. . .
