I went to Computer Renaissance today to price notebooks for the day when I can afford one. Not too bad - I can get one for as little as $400.00. On a whim, I asked them what the cheapest machine they had was. I scored a Dell OptiPlex gx1 with 400MHz PII, 192M RAM and a 6G HDD for 60 bucks. It's a pizza-box type system, and butt-ugly, but it took a Redhat 9 install without batting an eyelash. I'm now well into the beating it into shape phase of the install and am typing this entry from it. Once I get some permissions issues sorted out it should be ready to rock and roll.

Building this thing is cutting into drawing time, so I will probably take a week off of Cat-Tharsis. This thing is in my living room right now -- it will move to the den later, so I might also use it to do some writing, since I can sit here with the keyboard in my lap. It's almost as good as having a laptop again.
